Ninja is the other generator supported by CMake. Ninja is explicitly intended to work on a serialized action graph; it's the only tool I'm aware of that is. It solves a lot of the problems of Make: it removes many of the ambiguities; it doesn't have any form of globbing; and generally it's a much simpler and smaller language.
